MEETING OF THE MINDS AT MRIS!   

Reducing our ecological footprint was the topic of discussion when Augusta-Margaret River Shire president Pam Townsend visited the Year 6 MRIS students last week.

Ms Townsend gave an insight into the shire’s sustainability initiatives including recycling projects, renewable energy options and reducing greenhouse emission throughout the shire. Wallcliffe firies for saving their plastics for MRIS.

Yr 6 teacher, Laura Nicholls said the students asked many questions about how they could move forward with their ideas to assist in reducing the shire’s landfill.

Next term the class will work on a submission to the shire to reduce the use of plastic straws and cups in the community.

The class also enjoyed producing pedal power on specially converted bikes to light up a lamp, fire up a drill and make a chocolate smoothie during an electricity and energy lesson.
