In a blast from the past, MRIS recently had some very interesting visitors on campus – John Shervington and his wife Katie from Sydney.
John is a descendant of the Shervington family of Witchcliffe. The Shervington farm is now the site of the Witchcliffe EcoVillage. John wanted to visit MRIS because his parents were the first couple married in the school’s church building in 1939 which currently houses our Library.
At the time of their marriage, the building was located in Margaret River. The building started its life as a Catholic Church, built in Cowaramup in 1936 for $450 pounds. It was then shifted to Margaret River in 1939 before being moved again to MRIS in 1984.
John was able to point out the altar area and other features of the historical building that he remembered from his childhood.
