Margaret River Independent School’s collaboration with Baroque Australia http://www.australianbaroque.com/ continues despite COVID 19 restrictions. Last year, students and staff were introduced to an inspiring string orchestra program featuring fiery works by Italian composer, Antonio Vivaldi and the opportunity to reflect on how the music made them feel by putting paint on paper. The project was funded by Culture and the Arts WA. The group was due to revisit MRIS in February to transform the student’s art into a digital based work to present at a free concert at the Margaret River Heart on March 18, however, due to current Covid 19 regulations this has not been possible. Instead artworks have been completed by MRIS students with their art teacher, Skye Robertson. Helen Kruger, Baroque Australia’s Artistic Director said the created work will be projected behind the musicians during the performance. “We will share our journey and investigation of the 17th century concept of affect and the synthesis between each piece of music and each piece of artwork,” she said. “We will be filming the concert, this recording will then be overlaid with the student’s animated images which will go to all the local schools for viewing.” Principal, Wendy Roediger said the partnership with Baroque Australia “had been a delight and exposed the children to world-class musicians playing live music”.
