In a first for MRIS, student-led tours for the public operated on the Nyindamurra Nature Trail on Tuesday. After a year of intensive study with Yr 3 teacher, Ashley Burke and mentoring with Wardandi leader, Josh Whiteland, students shared traditional bush knowledge, delivering an informative, interactive tour for community members including shire councillor, Naomi Godden.
MRIS Principal, Wendy Roediger said the school was delighted to open the trail for a gold coin donation. “We have used our Coral Tulloch illustration (a renowned children’s illustrator) as our mascot and we have student illustrated maps for sale.” Local, Christine Brown said the tour was extremely informative and inspiring. “It was amazing to see what these children know about their own environment, and the knowledge they have developed. To see what is learned in the classroom applied out in the field is an inspiring way to educate.”
