Twenty-two recycling separation bins have been located around the MRIS campus funded through a recent Waste Wise WA Grant.
The $2200 grant is aiding the students and staff to more effectively separate recycling therefore minimising waste. The bins are for paper and cardboard, land fill, and organic material (which goes into the school’s work farms).
There are also bins for soft plastics, beauty products and
bottle tops with plans for further recycling of mobile phones and office supplies.
In addition to the recycling program, the Yr 2 and Yr 6
students are collaborating with Miki from Miki’s Kitchen in Margaret River to cook sushi and other Japanese-style treats from produce grown from two new vegetable/bush tucker gardens attached to their classrooms.
