MRIS Year 6 student, Rio Haigh has ‘stars in his eyes’ after recently being selected to attend Perth’s John Curtin College of Arts. One of only a small number of students to make the cut, Rio will study Music for Guitar and Voice in 2017. He said he looked forward to the challenge and meeting “like-minded, creative” people and relished the idea of living in the city.
“My goal is to become a pop star like Justin Bieber or Katy Perry but I realise I will need to be unique if I’m to be successful—it’s a hard road and only a few make it.” Rio credited MRIS music teachers, Pam Tuffin and Manfred Bruggler for inspiring his love of music. “They taught me everything I know about music. I owe them a lot!”
