MRIS has launched the Better Buddies program, an initiative of The Alannah and Madeline Foundation which, helps Year 1 students to feel safe, valued and connected to the school community. Better Buddies is designed to help reduce bullying and create friendly and caring school environments.

MRIS senior teacher, Julie Lockyer said Year 1 students will be paired with an older buddy. She said the programme has proven that children benefit immensely through building strong relationships.

“MRIS already provides a caring, family environment with children of all ages playing together and looking after each other so the Better Buddies programme will further support this by making younger students feel safe and cared for, and older students feel valued and respected.”
