DSC_0044THE wonders of nature came to the plate when Margaret River Independent School’s Kindy students made vegetable soup from produce grown in their school garden recently.

Kindy teacher Helen Ewing said students harvested carrots, onions, silverbeet, leeks and celery grown from seed before washing and

preparing the vegetables for cooking. Helen said teaching children to grow their own food was a fun way to educate them about healthy eating and to introduce them to the wonders of nature. Being able to bring their home-grown produce to the table gave the children a real sense of accomplishment, a new appreciation for food, as well as great learning experience.

“Over time this learning experience has integrated so many learning areas within a very meaningful context working towards aspects of all five outcomes in The Early Years Learning Framework.”
