A expedition into Margaret River’s fascinating Mammoth Cave inspired the scientific side of MRIS’s Year 5/6 class on Wednesday.

The students joined with other local schools to take part in a ‘fun interactive discovery’ of the flora and fauna of the Mammoth Cave and the karri forest.

A free event, Bio Blitz is presented by the Cape to Cape Catchments Group and the Margaret River Busselton Tourism Association.
Class teacher Liz Borkin said the class discovered an

array of wildflowers and unique orchids in the bushland surrounding the cave and chatted to biodiversity

scientists about the cave’s fragile eco-system.

Students will now compare subjects that they have been studying with the outcomes of Bio Blitz and discuss areas of  environmental study which may interest them as

possible career opportunities.
